Hello everyone,
Today we had the pleasure of having Louise Bédard come and watch us work in our rehearsal period. Louise is a well-known dancer and choreographer in Montreal and she previously danced Joe and Rodolphe in the ‘80s. She came to see our work and to offer some insight as to how to dance these works. It was just great to have Louise with us and I think the exchange with the students was very productive. It is always inspiring to hear performers talk about the reality of the dancer, of his search for specific gestures, his quest for authentic effort, his participation to an intense creative process... and yet, to speak as well of the power of the body’s abandonment in the choreographed movement.
The part of the interpreter in Jean-Pierre’s work is, in the dancer’s ability to render the singularity of each moment. It is in the real investment of the energy inherent to each person in motion as well as in the collective effort that a choreographic work can be delivered to an audience in all it’s intricacies.
It was a good day of rehearsals again today even with the fatigue and a few absences. When we start to discuss these topics in a work session, it means that a good part of the work has already been going on and we are ready to aim further into the work.
Thank you Louise for taking the time to come and work with us, and especially for your precious advice. We have some good challenges ahead of us.
Unfortunately I was so caught up with the discussion that I forgot to take pictures of the chat. Tomorrow we might have the pleasure of meeting with Daniel Soulières who also performed many Perreault works. It will be another good and inspiring day of rehearsals.
To be continued...
